This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
April is Autism Awareness Month! Please take this opportunity to support my classroom! Autism now effects 1 in 88 children. I have the privilege of teaching a small group of this population and love every minute of my work day!
My students are intelligent, charismatic, and energetic young adults who struggle with social skills, communication, anxiety, and changes in routine.
My classroom is highly structured and visual, in order to provide them with the most support and chances to learn as possible. Our school is in a low income neighborhood and most of my students are from needy families. Our school has very few supplies. I need to buy most of the things myself.
My Project
The challenge of teaching an autistic classroom is that we cannot follow the preset curriculum. The skills of my students vary greatly and each student requires an individualized learning system. I need to create each task a student works on specifically to meet that child's goals. I make academic tasks, social skills visuals, communication systems, and functional/prevocational work. I use a LOT of ink and I am not completely out!
I need ink for my printer, so I can continue to develop a curriculum for my students with autism.
They've had amazing progress this year and I don't want a lack of supplies to slow them down! Please help my students reach their potential!!
