Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help these students that scored extremely low on the State Wide Writing test 2011-2012. The students will be motivated to read current events. They will see in color, buildings, disasters and nature. They have never experienced or laid eyes upon.

My 3rd students are majority African American and Hispanic males.

Several students are in SPeD. Many are second language learners. They are eager to learn and be successful. My students have been retained previously in 3rd grade, or in a previous grade. This is a Title 1 school. All students are receiving free or reduced lunch. A large percentage of the students live at or below the poverty level. Surprisingly, several of my students do not know their Dads, or one of their parents are deceased or incarcerated.

My Project

Time for Kids and Scholastic magazines will inspire my students to read and write. My students love to be referred to as editors, publishers and reporters. They will see kids their age doing what they aspire to do. They will also see places and people from other states and countries. The students can add to their skimpy home libraries.

Our district has been hit hard by budgetary cuts!

Parents can not afford to pay for the reading materials which the students so desperately need too see authentic writing and pictures. Overall, students writing will greatly improve and they will be successful on the State Writing Exam.
