This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are absolutely amazing in every way. Our class is complete with 25 enthusiastic, curious and animated first graders from a range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our class is an integrated co-teaching (ICT) classroom meaning that a portion of our students have special needs. Our needs range from speech and language disorders to autism and none of the labels stop any of the students from trying their hardest and always exceeding expectations. These 25 students are dedicated and excelling in the classroom is the norm!
Our class of students are a unique, clever, determined and persistent bunch with a range of interests and needs - making each and every lesson new and exciting!
My co-teacher and I take a very hands-on approach to education which allows students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
My Project
Imagine writing a 6-page story of the time you lost a tooth when eating in the cafeteria... now imagine being able to put that story into digital form. You could show it to your classmates, to your school and to your family! Our ultimate goal is to create an online portfolio of all of the students' work. Students, parents, teachers and all with the given link will then be able to watch, listen and explore the various stories written by our first graders. This portfolio will grow as the year goes on and at the end, we will have an online yearbook of our writing!
Not only will iPads allow my students to use apps that will help them in digitizing their work, but they will also have access to a camera to take pictures of their work and voice recording apps to record them reading their work.
Each and every one of my students have been focused and doing their best in our writing units and I would love to give them the opportunity to modernize their work by digitizing it. Our students live in a world dominated by technology and it is only evident that we give them exposure to these tools at a young age. iPads will allow my students to further their writing in many ways all while learning about our modern digital society. I am also requesting cases to protect our iPads.
