This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It is 10:30 am in room 118. It is our writing time, time to write stories about our winter break, time to write about a furry animal's habitat or simply write an opinion about something we just read. Table 1 comes to me and asks me to sharpen their pencil, but our last 2 pencil sharpeners do not work.
Someone in table 2 shouts, "I have a sharpener!"
This is the story that has been heard lately in my classroom. I have bought 2 pencils sharpeners both at different amounts and they seemed to be defective. This past week I made another trip to Home Depot and I bought a basic sharpener. However it does not sharpen different size pencils. As a teacher it is my duty to provide my students with the essential tools and supplies to become great writers.
My Project
How can I ask my students to add more details to their sentences, when sometimes their pencils do not have any lead in them. As a teacher it is my responsibility to provide them with the basic tools in the classroom. Having the freedom to be able to sharpen my students' pencils when ever they need to be sharpen is something that should be done without worry.
The look on their faces I see when I sharpen their pencil is priceless!
The excitement they get, and compare each other's pencil to see whose is the pointiest, who can finish that point faster in their writing is almost like a competition with each other. I have witness how a simple everyday thing like this motivates them to finish their story and continue growing as writers!
