My Students

In a low-income community where more than half of the students have free or reduced-price lunch, not every child has the opportunity to attend preschool. Kindergarten is the first experience many students get with schools! My kindergarten students came to school excited to start their life-long adventure of learning and I hope to build a strong foundation for their education.

This kindergarten class has a love for illustrating and writing!

They get excited about clean paper, crayons, markers, stickers, and anything that will help their pictures and stories come to life. I am excited to develop passionate authors and illustrators this year.

My Project

This year I am trying to create an independent writing center that students can use to express their creativity through art and writing. It is my hope that with an attractive area for them to use and along with a variety of writing and illustrating tools, they will be inspired to bring their stories to life.

Oral storytelling is an important standard in Kindergarten but watching them transition from oral stories to drawings and writing is an incredible experience.

The tabletop writing center will be filled with crayons, markers, paint, stencils, new paper, and other things to motivate students to bring their ideas to life.

The giant magnetic writing page will be used as an anchor to model different writing techniques and spelling for frequently requested words. The stencil box will support those students who are learning how to draw pictures and struggle to follow How-To text. The pencil sharpener will be available for students to keep those tips sharp and moving! With all of these materials available at one table, students will be excited about our writing block.
