Authors and Illustrators Book Club

My students need How to Draw books for their Authors and Illustrators Club.

My Students

Teamwork! Our artistic students are not always our top readers and have found a niche in the library the makes them proud. Many are new to the English Language. They have teamed up with a higher-leveled reader and formed great teams with authors and illustrators.

My students are in a high poverty urban school in Maryland.

About 97% of our students are considered below the poverty line and receive Free or Reduced Meals (FARMS). About 20% are coming to us through the refugee center. They have many and varied educational experiences depending on the culture they had to flee from. .

My Project

Students in the Authors and Illustrators Club will use these How To Drawing books to practice, get ideas on what areas to research, and then make their books. The teams create both non-fiction books using research skills in the library and fiction books. These How To Draw books are popular with all students and so will be available to all.

Students are so excited to know that they can become authors and illustrators, I cannot keep these on the shelves. These "How To" books will be rotated between the Book Club and the regular check-outs from our school library.
