My students need a huge selection of literature by talented authors to give them the chance to explore reading through familiar characters and story structure!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A school with no library! Little scholars need books! Please support purchasing the text to teach students literacy skills and strategies, as well as the English language they need to participate in academic studies. Author studies provide students with familiar characters and story structures.
Our students are primarily from families in poverty, with limited literacy, and many do not speak English at home.
They live in East Harlem and the Bronx and fought hard to be accepted to our school. I want to provide them with the highest quality literature through which to give them every skill they will need to succeed in school and catch up to their peers in suburban schools. They have so much enthusiasm for learning and desperately want to succeed, and they deserve to be given every chance!
My Project
I am requesting books that can be used to develop literacy through author studies. The books will be used in mini-units, focusing on reading skills, like identifying characters, setting, problem and solution, and main idea, all of which is easier for kindergrtners and first graders (and especially English language learners) when they read text with familiar characters and structural styles. I've selected books by notary children's authors that celebrate diversity and themes of morality and friendship. These books will be available to all teachers at our school and will be used in the instruction of our 100+ students.
This project is hugely important to the development of literacy and English language for my scholars!
We don't have a school library and I am developing the English Language Learner curriculum to supplement our school's language arts curriculum. Please support our school with these texts. Every single book will bring smiles to our students' faces as they realize their huge capacities for learning!
