This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello. I am a first grade teacher at a school in Brooklyn where 94% of the students qualify for a free lunch. As I plan for the next critical school year, I would like to do an author study on Ezra Jack Keats.
One of the most important things in learning to read and write is to study the works of other authors. Ezra Jack Keats writes wonderful stories that kids can relate to. By studying his books in depth we can learn the crafts of an author we love and use them in our own writing.
I am asking for a collection of books by Ezra Jack Keats so that we can study and compare his techniques and learn how to recognize and use them. Having several copies of each title will allow us to have book talks as well as work with partners and in groups. The cassettes will help students hear the rhythms of each story and will be particularly beneficial for struggling students.
Please help us surround ourselves with the books of Ezra Jack Keats in order to make this study truly effective and enjoyable. Your consideration of this proposal is greatly appreciated.
