Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our fifth and sixth-grade students have the amazing opportunity to meet author Sy Montgomery. Sy Montgomery is an American naturalist and author who blends scientific research with personal experiences to craft compelling narratives about the diverse creatures she encounters throughout the natural world. We want to provide students with access to her animal books so that they can research and write about an animal just like her!

Animals have so much to teach us, and we want our students to imagine they are a nature explorer who gets to know animals up close!

These books will help them see what real animal scientists do and learn more about an animal of their choosing. The informational picture books written by this author will serve as a mentor text as students write their own animal stories filled with facts, observations, and a lesson we can learn from that creature!
