My Students
My students range from 13 to 20 years of age. They are boys and girls who speak a variety of first languages. They attend an urban high school within the poorest region of the city. Twenty-one point seven percent are English learners, and 100 percent are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced-price lunches.
My students need portable Bunsen Burners for Science labs
The more students do hands on activities in Science, the more they get interested and Engaged in learning Science. Most inner city school students are not exposed to Science labs which inequitably denies them authentic science learning experiences.
I would like to purchase portable bunsen burners so that I can provide my students with a variety of safe Chemistry labs to do.
My Project
The Chemistry labs that students can do have been limited to dry activities that do not require heating. Heating is required in many Science labs. A portable bunsen burners is a versatile, safe heating source that would make it possible for students to participate in Chemistry labs.
Some exciting labs like flame tests require a flame from a Bunsen burner in order to make good observations.
These kind of activities increase students engagement and interest in Science. They also provide meaningful form of Science learning. Our students need to have the Science lab experiences so that they more students can pursue STEM related careers.
