Authentic Disability Representation in the Classroom Library

My Students

I have the great privilege of providing speech and language therapy to preschool and elementary students with disabilities. My students reflect our diverse Western Washington State community, and our school works to amplify and celebrate the many cultures of the families we serve.

My Project

As a school based speech-language pathologist, I serve students with a range of disabilities and often use literacy-based therapy practices to support both learning and student engagement.

Representation matters: Disabled children deserve to see people like themselves in popular media.

Living with a disability can be an isolating experience; providing authentic representation is one way we can support our disabled students.

This collection of books will be used in speech and language therapy to support students' IEP goals and to celebrate the unique strengths and needs of each individual.
