My Students

This will be my second year with my primary school artist students, after spending majority of my 21 year career at the secondary level! I learned so much in my first year with them and want to continue improving my practice to provide an authentic art making experience for them. They are tiny artists with huge imaginations!

I am excited to build on the art education approach of TAB, or Teaching for Artistic Behavior, a choice-based art education experience which regards students as artists and offers them real choices for responding to their own ideas and interests through the making of art.

Choice-based art education supports multiple modes of learning and assessment for the diverse needs of students.

I'm excited to continue this journey with these young artists!

My Project

In our new NYS Visual Arts Learning Standards, Anchor Standard 4 addresses that students select, analyze and interpret artistic work for presentation. Some of the essential questions to be considered through this standard are: How are artworks cared for and by whom? What criteria and methods are used to select work for presentation or preservation? Why do people value objects, artifacts, and artwork, and select them for presentation or preservation?

If each student has their own personal portfolio to keep their artwork safe and organized, they will learn about caring for and preserving their work, as well as keeping it organized when it's time to select their favorite/strongest piece for the end of year art show.

They will also have a safe means for transporting their art home at the end of the year!
