My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. I happily give it my all to teach these incredibly curious and imaginative students with high energy and engagement. Most of them speak English as a second language in an inner-city, Title I school and struggle through many hardships before even entering the classroom.

Despite many challenges, my students love learning and trying new ideas to make their projects better.

Our school supports all kinds of creative thought processes because, in a high poverty neighborhood, it is sometimes the only safe place that can provide support and opportunity to overcome the struggles of meeting our rigorous state standards.

My Project

We were recently very fortunate to have been visited by Google and presented with a sneak peek of the Google Expeditions augmented and virtual reality experience. It was phenomenal! My students were immersed in many different worlds including walking with Dinosaurs, stepping into an active volcano, and even walking in the Roman Colosseum in the time of the gladiators.

Immersive, augmented, and virtual reality learning is the future of teaching.

I am requesting cellphones, selfie sticks, Google cardboard viewers, tablets, and a router to create our own immersive learning lab. The cellphones will be loaded with the Google Expeditions app which is totally free and includes up to 500 different field trip experiences. From there, we will pair all of the devices through the router so my students can use the app anywhere in the school. The tablets will serve to provide students an additional research tool while they are immersed. The selfie sticks and cardboard viewers are necessary so that students can choose how to interact with the cellphones and to avoid the nauseous effect that VR and AR can sometimes cause.

My students are technologically gifted and can not wait to see and hear their learning come to life. Thank you for any support that you can provide for this ambitious project! Please, become a partner in our learning and help us become immersed into the future of learning.
