Audiobook Literacy Center

My students need an audiobook literacy center and chairs to allow for comfortable and flexible seating that is age appropriate.

My Students

My students are bubbly, cheerful, and eager to learn! I work in a low-income community, and many of my students come without prior access to literacy experiences. Therefore, is important to engage my students in a variety of reading and writing-based learning opportunities. This will enable them to be prepared for the rest of their educational career, and beyond!

About one-third of my class has special needs, which means the classroom needs a diverse array of learning centers and activities to best meet the needs of each child.

As a first year teacher, my goal is ensure all of my students an equitable education.

My students are high energy, and love to build, play, and show off their skills! Most of my students are male, and enjoy playing with cars, blocks, and play-doh. Many also enjoy the dramatic play center, as well as reading books with adults.

As a first year teacher, I am lacking in the resources that I need to best educate my students. I am thankful that you have taken the time to learn about my students and my dedication to providing them with a quality education that they deserve.

My Project

An audiobook literacy center (which includes the 6 person audiobook MP3/CD player and flexible seating) allows for PreK students to engage in autonomous, individual reading practices. Since my students cannot yet read and many do not have access to story time at home, it is important that my students gain such exposure in the classroom.

The center not only provides students with multiple modes of literacy input, but fosters within each child an appreciation for books.

My hope is to access each child's interests through the audiobook literacy center, and intrinsically motivate them to continue to read books individually.

Not only would this project be beneficial for students to engage in listening to stories, but it would further aide in my instruction. While students are listening to stories, I would be able to instruct more students who need additional support during this time.
