Thanks to donors like you, my class got a brand new listening center. But now we need some audio books that my students can listen to. Audio books support literacy development in both English and Spanish. Listening to stories being read is a great model for reading fluently.
I have 26 first graders who love to question and learn.
In our school, 57% of the students receive free or reduced price meals. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. They enjoy participating in literacy activities and they are eager new writers and readers.
My Project
In their listening center, my students will be able to read along to their new stories, individually or in small groups. While some of my students are fluent in Spanish, others are in the process of learning Spanish for the first time. Audio books model fluent reading and help with comprehension, vocabulary, sequencing, and retelling.
Having new audio books for our listening center has many advantages.
Listening centers help kids with their listening skills, foster independence, and can complement the content curriculum. It also enriches their literacy practices, using an audio-visual format.
