My students need actual magnets for hands-on activities during our magnet science unit.

My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin
I have a wonderful class of 29 second graders in Portland, Oregon!
My students are sweet, caring and full of life! They love learning and truly enjoy taking in new information. I teach in a high-poverty area so many of my students don't have access to materials to supplement their learning unless it's in the classroom.
My Project
One of our major science units is a unit on magnets. We spend just over a month learning about magnetic force and conducting different experiments. We test various objects around our classroom and school to learn if they are magnetic. I am hoping to get some magnetic kits for my students to use in the classroom.
I currently do not have the materials I need to teach this unit to the best of my ability. I have magnets that were passed on by a previous 2nd grade teacher. However, with a class of close to 30 students, having only five magnets prevents all students from having access to different types of magnets.
These magnet kits will make a huge difference in my classroom!
My students will have materials for hands-on learning and experiments. Each student will have access to various types of magnets instead of having to share just a few with a whole class of students. Like the quote above says, in order to learn, students need to be involved. And being involved means hands-on learning.
