My students need a microphone to be able to hear a lesson from any location in the our large classroom lab. They also need to practice public speaking in front of their peers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning we start the day with breakfast. We then move straight into a reading and or math block. Our biggest challenge in 6th grade is focus and listening. We have found that by using a microphone all students are able to hear the lesson and complete the assignment.

The students are in 6th grade at an extreme poverty school.

They have amazing personalities and have all set their career goals. They have formed a Leadership Team in order to set a positive example for the lower grades. Each student comes to school with many trials going on at home. They do their best to focus on the lessons being taught. The majority are well below grade level in both reading and math and are working hard each day to make as much up as they possibly can.

My Project

Our classroom is a very large lab with two sections. One set up with desks, the others with computers. As a teacher, I have always taught with a microphone. Unfortunately, the microphone is no longer working. This has really had an impact on the students who have hearing issues. By using the microphone, I will be able to reach all students at the same time. This will help to ensure the students hear and receive the lesson and are able to be successful. The microphone will also be used for the students to practice public speaking and presentation skills in conjunction with their science and social studies projects.

This project will improve our classroom by allowing each student the opportunity to hear their lessons in a clear and concise way.

The project will also help the students to speak in front of an audience and it will provide them the opportunity to enhance their presentation skills. They will be able to use these skills both in school and in their future.
