This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a speech language pathologist in a low income/high poverty school, my students are faced with many challenges both inside and outside of the four walls of our school. With that being said, I want to provide my students with the most enriching and meaningful learning experiences as possible.

Aside from being of a lower socioeconomic status, all of my students have a range of speech and language disorders making their situations extremely unique and difficult.

Despite these circumstances, my students come to school everyday eager to learn. While I cannot control what goes on in my students' lives outside of school, I can certainly control what goes on inside of my classroom. By doing this in an engaging and creative way, I hope to inspire these young learners to continue on a path of academic success.

My Project

There are three speech pathologists working in one classroom. While, the room that we are provided is big enough for all three of us, the students are very distracted by each other. Our students are faced with speech and language disorders which already impact their receptive language and attention skills.

So once they are placed in the room with all of these distractions, they are unable to focus therefore, making our therapy less effective.

With dividers, we will be able to separate our room, block out some sound, and limit distractions. As a result, our students will be more successful with reaching their goals.
