My Students

My school serves a large English Language Learner community. Most of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes. What makes my students special is that a lot of them speak another language at home and have parents who don't speak English at all. Despite these obstacles they come to school daily ready and eager to learn.

Our school is nestled in a little neighborhood that is truly a loving community.

The community and school become more and more diverse every year. Our building is old and small but we make up for it by having an amazing diverse group of teachers who are passionate about what they do and our students.

My Project

One of our school's goals for the 2019– 2020 school year is to assist with minimizing the absenteeism rate of all students, which will help to improve student achievement. One way in which to achieve this goal is to provide monthly perfect attendance recognition and incentives. Prior to receiving this acknowledgement, students will understand the direct impact making good grades and coming to school every day has on their academic success.

Donating to our project will help us provide prizes such as stickers and bookmarks to students for the rest of the school year.

Attendance is an important part of student success because when they are not in class they are missing out on their education.
