Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Showing up is not all of life, but it counts for a lot!"-H.C. Our school has had a high number of families in mobility & low SES status. We have high numbers of recent immigrant communities who experience language barriers. 19.5% of students were habitually absent. This project will help motivate.

Our school reaches pre-teens ages 11-15 years old.

At this age peers are so important. This project will help me recognize and promote positive self image of students. We will track daily attendance and teach when to stay home when you are sick and when to come to school. Students that have excellent attendance for the week will earn a reward paw print that will go into a drawing for prizes. Winning students will have their picture taken and earn extra time on the tablet. The tablet will be loaded with educational but fun activities. In my classroom students always wanted to work on the tablets more than anything else. They are a great educational tool. Students can make presentations and practice basic skills too.

My Project

Students will be able to earn time to use tablets in class. Students will earn paw print (we are Wildcats) rewards for making attendance gains, and learning responsible attendance habits. Students will be recognized for being responsible; calling in when they are sick or unable to come to school much like an employee with their employer. Students love to see pictures of themselves and with their parents permission I will post pictures of the students that have the best attendance.

This project will help bring the "cool" factor to school.

While fighting the stereotype of being nerdy or weird, students will be recognized when doing good and want to come to school more often.
