ATPE Member-Flexible Seating for a Comfy and Kinesthetic Friendly Classroom
My students need wobble chairs, bean bag seats, backpatter's seats, comfy pillows, stools, and wobble chairs in order for our classroom to implement flexible seating.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners who are in a bilingual classroom meaning they are learning to read and write in their native language (Spanish) first. They all come in with different levels of English Proficiency meaning some can speak a little English, some speak a lot of English, and some with no English at all. As a kindergarten teacher, I will have students who have never been in school and some who have attended Pre-K, Head Start or some form of preschool. I also have some who are new to the country whose parents just came from Mexico. As small children getting used to the school environment, they have different needs that need to be fulfilled in order to be able to learn.
My Project
All students have different needs and learn in different ways. For most students this age, movement is a vital part of the learning process. Flexible seating give students a choice and, from the very beginning, are actively invested in their own learning. My project will provide different seating options such as wobble seats, bean bag chairs, pillows, and stools. Students aren't only comfortable, but if they need movement in order to learn, they can do so WITHOUT the risk of following out of a chair by using the wobble seats.
This means that gone are the days of having to sit still in a hard chair!
Even students as young as my kindergartners should be allowed to accept responsibility of their education through choices. By helping to fund my project through Donors Choose, you will be helping my students do just that. I am an ATPE member, a Texas teaching association, that will fund the rest of my project if donors like you fund the first half.
