This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our High School has joined the Alternative Athletics League to provide our students with an athletic experience not typically available to our student population. The AAL gives students the opportunity to participate in Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball.

Being able to be a part of the Alternative Athletics League has given students motivation to do better in school, challenge themselves athletically, and learn the valuable lesson of teamwork.

My goal at PHS is to help empower my students to develop a sense of purpose, value and positive habits that lead to personal and academic success. I feel that athletics gives students an opportunity to do this in a setting outside of the classroom while also encouraging them to grow individually in their ability to work as a team, overcome challenges, demonstrate perseverance, practice sportsmanship, and develop leadership skills. The main focus as an athletics program is to encourage students to understand their own control of both attitude and effort and to always give 100% in everything they do.

As an alternative education program, my school does not have a traditional budget for athletics and is unable to completely fund the program. This project will help to purchase various supplies like shorts, jackets, jerseys, and volleyball knee pads to provide to athletes to use while competing. We will use the canopy to stay cool during our flag football and softball tournaments. The ice chest and wagon will help to carry waters/gatorade to keep athletes hydrated! The mic and iPhone holder will help to jump start our sports media program!

Our High School is considered 100% Title I (low income) and 15% of our student population is designated homeless/foster youth. I am asking for your support in providing this meaningful life experience to some of our most at-risk teenagers.
