This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a Title I school that is suburb of New Orleans with 90% free and reduced-price lunch, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things positive while providing my students with a fun and meaningful learning experience at home.
I would like to create math kits that include games and basic supplies that they can use at home with their families.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households where money and resources are scarce. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." Regardless of these things, my expectations for my students are limitless. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence in math.
My students love math, especially my girls. So I want to continue their interest and focus. This project could be the thing to insure that it happens.
My Project
My students are facing LEAP testing in the spring and the materials in this project will provide them with games and other fun ways to learn with their families and friends.
The students in my class enjoy playing games, so the Multiplication Electronic Flashcards and the fractions games with surely be enjoyed by all.
The geometric shapes and area/perimeter games will make learning and preparing for testing fun. The chart paper, markers, dry erase graph boards, and rulers will gave each student a chance to create projects than can be presented to the class. With these experiences my students will reach their goals of Mastery and above on testing.
With your help, my students, along with family members, will continue to stay excited about math, even at home!
