This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are great. They love learning and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English language learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family's household incomes are below the poverty line.
My school is a large, crowded school, in a very large urban district.
This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Fourteen staff members from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.
My Project
This fall, our school will be starting remotely. Most of my students do not have school and art supplies at home. These learning kits will help make sure all of my students can be successful.
No child should be left behind because they lack the tools to learn.
These learning kits will help give each child an opportunity to continue their learning at home. Each kit will be delivered to students' homes and will include school essentials such as pencils, scissors, and glue. The kits will also include some art supplies including paints and brushes to give students creative opportunities and an outlit for releasing covid-related stress.
