Do you remember the child who had a speech impediment or could not talk at all? Or others who had physical issues and could barely hold a pen? The assistive devices we are requesting are tools to help children learn to enunciate and in some cases are used as communication devices.
In my class, there are a number of physically challenged students who have trouble speaking.
The speech teachers at our school try to provide them with as much assistance as they can, but the tablets would make practicing much more efficient and convenient for the students. There are some wonderful applications that help children speak or provide silly characters that repeat what a child says. The child has a chance to hear themselves and try to correct what they hear. It also gives the child a chance to laugh a little while they learn to correct their speech.
My Project
Please help these wonderful students with speech problems and physical disabilities. Our hope is to have them speaking and writing better by the time they leave our school. It will be so helpful to have the tablets as a tool to improve their speech, writing, and their overall quality of life. In some cases, it gives a child the chance to communicate for the first time.
This project is so important to helping a number of students. The school is a large school with more than sixty percent of the students below the poverty level. These assistive devices would be a great help.
Tablets help increase their ability to speak and to write.
It also gives the student access to technology at home. The students come from low income families and many do not have computers at home. The students take the tablets home at night and use them to do their homework. I have been sending other tablets I have back and fourth to school for a number of years and have not had a tablet lost or damaged yet.
More than half of students from low‑income households
