My students need a set of plickers cards, dry erase boards, and dry erase dots for our guided reading table to help them make formative assessment fast and fun.
Formative assessment allows teachers to quickly see how well their students are understanding the material being taught and enables them to form intervention groups based on that quick assessment.
There are 29 students in my inner city classroom.
I teach 4th grade in a high poverty area. My students are working anywhere from a 2nd grade level to a 6th grade level. In order to meet the needs of every student I use formative assessment to see who needs intervention on which skills. This has to be quick so I can make snap decisions on who needs extra support and in which areas. Every day my students come to school to learn and I am continually searching for the best ways to meet their diverse needs.
My Project
I am requesting 1 set of plickers cards, a classroom set of dry erase boards, and 2 packs of dry erase dots for our guided reading table to help make formative assessment fast and fun! My students will each have a new dry erase board they can use at their seats during math instruction. This will allow me to see how students are doing during my lesson. I will use the dry erase dots at our intervention table. Students will be able to write responses directly on the table so I can quickly gage where they are. Finally, the Plicker cards are the most exciting. Students will each have a Plicker card they can hold up to show their answer to a multiple choice question. This will allow me to scan my classroom with our class iPad and will immediately send me the results telling me how well they understand a new concept or idea.
This project will make a difference in my classroom because it will allow me to take formative assessment to the next level.
I will be able to assess students quickly and guide my instruction on the spot. I am excited to see this project come to life and for my students to have another way to show me what they know!
