Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a special education teacher, I work with students who have a wide range of learning needs. Many of my students are also English language learners, and I want to ensure I’m using the most effective, culturally responsive assessment practices to support their growth.
To better serve these students, I am pursuing my Bilingual Special Education endorsement.
This DonorsChoose project will help fund my first course toward that goal: Assessment of English Language Learners. This class will strengthen my understanding of how to fairly and accurately assess multilingual students—ensuring that instruction, testing, and interventions are aligned with their unique needs.
Throughout the course, I’ll learn how to:
Connect assessment to instruction in meaningful ways
Use progress monitoring tools tailored to ELLs
Collaborate with families around assessment data
Evaluate students for content knowledge, not just language proficiency
