My students each need 40 durable, sleek, wire-bound, writers notebooks like the ones professional writers use.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A few years ago, as a graduate student at Columbia University's Teachers College, I tried to figure out how to get my students to write more. After using a variety of strategies and tools, I found that the type of notebook a child used helped motivate young writers. My conversation with two students went something like this:
"You've been writing so much lately," I said.
She said, "That's because I like my notebook."
Another student chimed in, "Me too! I can really carry this around wherever I go. It's not as bulky as my five-subject notebook."
For my students there is something special about having a small writer's notebook that they could carry around with them. They truly embrace the idea of living like a writer. I ask them to carry "idea notebooks" with them and write down what they notice, what they wonder about, and what happens around them in their daily lives.
I now teach writing to a wonderful, hard-working group of 19 fourth graders in an urban Rhode Island city. My students have taught me that while the traditional composition notebook will do, a special place for careful observation can help make a difference for a new writer. Notebooks that they love will help them write more. I'd like to purchase two durable, sleek, special writer's notebooks, like the ones professional writers use, for each of my students.
Thank you, in advance, for helping me to create a writing space with real writer's notebooks for my students.
