My students need lab coats to be inspired this year. When they enter a middle school classroom next year, I want science to be marked as their favorite subject.

My Students
I teach in a diverse setting where students identified as learning disabled, English language learners, and at-risk spend their day trying to be inspired by their learning. This is a tough task as I am competing with television, video games, and everything else that's deemed "cool" by a 10 year old.
I want my students to share with their parents and their friends all the "cool' science they are learning in the 5th grade.
My students are mostly military dependents who move in out of schools yearly. It's important that I tap into their interests and inspire them to make scientific connections in their everyday life and hopefully towards a science career when they graduate from high school. Our school has a small time frame in order to make lasting impressions on students who change schools yearly.
My Project
I am fortunate to work in a school where the basics are provided and I am able to set up interesting and engaging labs for my students, but I know that lab coats would set the mood and the tone for learning. They would become scientific and cool. They would remember the year they wore lab coats in science.
This donation would make a difference to subgroups of our population that are not performing well on state assessments.
Lab coats would get their attention and inspire them to see science as cool.
