Help me give my students the tools necessary for them to build their reading and writing skills. Students need a physical dictionary book and the muscle movement of turning pages to ensure retention of processing information.
LSA Technology Services, University of Michigan. December 02, 2021 released research that stated, "Research shows that movement improves concentration, relieves stress, and increases retention. Any opportunity for students to move during class, from a ten-minute standing break to a kinesthetic learning activity, can positively impact student learning."
This project will put dictionaries in the hands of those students who need them the most.
Students who have ADD/ADHD need constant movement. Students learning English need movement. Using a dictionary is a kinesthetic movement that helps students learn. Our school uses technology a lot. Most students are unable to find words, let alone definitions, in a dictionary. Students are also unable to determine the correct meaning of multiple meaning words. Students have become dependent on Dictionary.com and only look at the first meaning. By putting dictionaries in the hands of students, teachers can teach students how to use them, then relate the book skill to properly using Dictionary.com.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
