My elementary and middle school students from Maine are creative and eager to try new things! Our district art program provides a curriculum that allows children to connect to the elements and principles of art, artists through time, cultures all over world, and various materials. This includes exposure to all the different types of ways to make art, whether that's 2-D, 3-D, or projects that require a combination of both.
Some students learn better when they have a tactile experience with their supplies, and, in pottery, those students can shine!
The batch of students in our building this year Pre-K through 8th grade have not had any formal ceramics program since at least 2016 or earlier. With our recently donated kiln from a local artist in Portland, Maine, we can make that happen by putting the right materials their hands!
We are asking for 3 different colors of clay to get us started. Next, we are requesting some accessories that our kiln needs to run properly and fit two classes worth of projects inside for firing. Lastly, we are asking for many hues of shiny glaze since our ceramics need some color and proper finishing. These also provide some protection to the fragile pieces and the finishing touches that get our clay projects ready to display!
