My class has 18 students mostly from low income households. Many children are from other countries and are not native English language speakers. They quickly learn and by the end of the year can communicate well with their classmates.
As the year progresses we find children to be interested in learning the alphabet letters, sounds and numbers, however, we do not have enough creative resources to engage and excite their curiosity.
There are not enough quality items to learn through cooperative play. Through breakage, attrition and loss- we need to improve this area. Unfortunately, our budget doesn't provide the money to buy all the things we need. Therefore, I am excited to partner with Donor's choose and hope to provide an enriching prek experience for my class.
My Project
Children will play with alphabet, sound and number toys during center time with their peers. These toys will satisfy their curious minds by engaging them in self correcting activities with their peers. Children will grow and learn through play.
These materials will reinforce basic and essential concepts of math and literacy.
Our children are eager to learn. The materials that we choose will make it easier for us to engage them in various learning activities that will expand their learning experience in a fun and creative way. My children will learn number sequencing by playing with the fun "Number Sequencing Puzzle" or learn to match numbers by counting with the "Unlock it Numbers Match" toy. Learning the letters is very important in order to begin learning to read. We can prepare our children by teaching them the alphabet and reinforce what they learn by making it fun. The "Alphabet Learning Locks" is a great manipulative for the children to practice the alphabet. As children grow and progress their thirst for knowledge of numbers and letters increases. These materials are perfect for independent practice as we do not have them so they will be new and exciting. As a matter of fact, they will be the first of their kind for letter and number learning in our room. These materials will make a difference!
By providing these materials you will make a difference in the quality of our prekindergarten. We find that due to budget constraints, we need to partner with Donor's Chose.org. We appreciate your generosity!
