My Students
"Let what you do, be what you love."
One of the pivotal program beliefs is the idea of practicing your passion. We're glad to say we found it. Now, our job is to teach anyone, anywhere in the best way they can learn. It's our job to help children develop a love for learning. You can help us do that.
Our AS K-2 classroom is filled with eight amazing individuals with unique talents and abilities.
The classroom philosophy includes implementation of evidence-based practices within an individualized curricular system. We use data to drive our decisions and we take pride in our regular communication with our awesome families and members of our community!
My Project
We hope to use these materials to further develop our social-emotional and play skills. Many individuals within the special education system require intensive instruction within social, emotional, and leisure skills. Pretend and dramatic play is often a gateway to the development of many "social" behaviors.
Though our abilities vary greatly, each student will benefit from the addition of a play kitchen to our classroom. Important skills including turn taking, reciprocal conversation, eye contact, and leisure activities are occasioned naturally through practice within a socio-dramatic setting. In addition, life skills such as table setting, preparing "food," and shopping may be practiced within the same area.
These learning materials will provide a structured setting for practicing the leisure and social skills necessary for success in life.
These learning materials also target a specific area of need (i.e. social/leisure curriculum) within our classroom's population. Unfortunately, our elementary school does not house a functional kitchen in which we can learn. So, our way to practice these skills within the educational setting is through a structured play kitchen.
