My second grade classroom is transforming from a traditional classroom of instruction to a technology infused classroom of collaboration and exploration.
At my school, students have a passion for learning but face unique challenges with the support of engaged families.
All of our school's students are eager to learn and have great potential. That is not to say that our school is without its challenges; our students deserve to learn skills that they can apply in their technology rich futures and careers. I feel that providing opportunities for students to work with age appropriate technology helps our students become better learners and gives them the foundations for a tech infused future.
My Project
In second grade, MES students begin to complete computer homework. This new expectation is an opportunity for families and students to bond, while exploring technology literacy skills and reinforcing core subject areas. With this challenge, families often come into my classroom after school hours in order practice logging in and out, and utilizing the new software.
My students and families are in need of five iPad minis to utilize with Osmo technology, coding, and other after school technology explorations.
With this tool, families will be able to support students growth more readily. Students will be able to engage in various, differentiated activities while learning literacy skills.
We currently utilize centers such as Dot & Dash Robots, and Osmo centers, and code applications, that require the use of iPads. Students have been growing vastly since the integration of these centers. Our school also hosts various family engagement activities such as Hour of Code, and STEM nights. Our classroom's previous iPads have been retired due to inability to update. In an effort to keep student's skills up to date while engaging families, help us to update our tech.
