Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For most of my preschool students, this is the first time in a school-like environment. Up until this point they have little experience with concepts like sharing, waiting, taking turns, and sitting for long periods of time. This can also be the first time they experience big emotions. It can often be hard for them to calm down if they don’t know how.
Providing my students with a calm space and tools for them to take a break and reset is a helpful way to help them navigate those big emotions.
When students enter the calm space they will be able to set a timer, sit down on the bean bag chair, and grab a book or a fidget from the rolling cart. The books will help students identify their emotions and also provide techniques for them to calm down such as breathing exercises. The fidgets will help them follow those exercises. Once students feel better or the timer is up, they are ready to join the group again!
