Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a seventh grade Science and Social Studies teacher in a high need, urban school district in New Jersey.
We are interested in doing a unit of study on the oceans. I would like them to see how humans have seen the ocean historically and plan on presenting them with art work as a visual. My plans include art by Roy Lichtenstein, Katsushika Hokusai, Claude Monet, Andy Warhol, Woody Woodworth, Minoji, Winslow Homer, Wyland and Currier and Ives. These works of art represent many viewpoints and artistic styles. I can not bring them to the museum to view the works in person, I don't even have posters of the art work but I am hopeful that they will see the beauty in this art and be inspired to create some of their own.
We need watercolor paints, pastels, fabric and crafts, and paper to great our own masterpieces. These art supplies will allow them the chance to make their artistic voices heard and an opportunity to experiment with one of the artistic styles we have looked at.
With your help they will not only learn the value of our oceans and marine life but hopefully want their art to serve a purpose. The end goal of this project is to engage the students and encourage them to be environmentally active to protect our watery planet.
