I remember watching the occasional art show when I was a child, and being very inspired and quite excited! Art videos have certainly come a long way since my childhood, and I want to use media as a way to incite children to art!
Our children come from a low socio-economic community with high expectations for personal growth and achievement.
What we lack in material wealth, we make up for in richness of culture and experiences. Our school and community is devoted to providing our children with the same opportunities as their more financially fortunate counterparts. Despite our students' challenges, they have achieved remarkable successes; our band has played at Carnegie Hall, and our artists have been published and have work in galleries. We believe in our children and their ability to rightfully find their place in this world as citizens.
My Project
Our schools are subject to the national fanaticism of standardization testing. On testing days, our schedules get changed, and often, when the weather is bad, "prep" periods are spent by bringing several classes into the auditorium to watch videos.
Having these art videos will fill in the gaps for when they are unable to get to art class because of the test schedule. When a young artist realizes that rather than coming to art, they must come to the auditorium to watch a "boring" movie, they are often devastated. That disappointment can be alleviated by using art-themed videos, engaging their minds, rather than numbing them.
If you are able to help us get these art-themed videos, then you will be preventing the interruption of art instruction due to the standardized test that disrupts our schedule.
If our artists continue to be inspired, then there will be no gaps in their artistic development, thanks to you!
