My students need crayons, clay, colored pencils, felt, and construction paper as an alternative recess due to limited yard space because of construction.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Recently the school has begun a construction project and scaffolding is taking up much of the yard space. The children frequently encounter problems in the yard. Arts and crafts will provide a safe space both physically and emotionally, and tap in to their creative energy.
The students are third graders in a very high poverty area.
They spend their school day in a co-teaching setting. The students are diverse in terms of their backgrounds and their needs. When they are given opportunities, they are constantly surprising us and coming up with new and brilliant ideas!
My Project
We are requesting various arts and crafts supplies to fill the gap between what is provided by the school and what the students are requesting. It is frequently heard in the classroom "Can we draw this?" "Can we paint that?" We would like the opportunity to say "Yes! of course you can!" to all of them. We need supplies including construction paper, felt paper, colored pencils, and clay.
When students are given the opportunity to express their thoughts through various mediums, they are able to stretch their thinking. When this is done in conjunction with a soothing environment that students choose to be a part of, there is no telling where these materials will take them!
It has been noticed that students tend to share and be more collaborative during creative situations like this; rather than putting each other down as is typically done in the yard.
Help us to promote these positive interactions through arts and crafts!
