This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have a club for English learners during lunch on Fridays. We need some arts and crafts material to have a space for mental health, and share our journey together. These resources give them the tools they need to succeed in their life. Many times they come to school battling ghosts we do not see nor are aware fo. It is nice to have systems in place to keep they productive and enthusiastic about coming to school especially the club.
My goal is to have them learn new skills, but also remember things they might have done back home.
For example, may be did already know how to knit and just need to go down memory lane. Maybe they need to learn to knit so they can keep themselves warm during the winter by knitting a scarf or a hat.
My students are special for many reasons. First off, they show up to school even though they have some rough days getting to school. They try their best even when English is not their first language. They support each other and even share what little they have or what little they know about this new life.
I am so grateful to be I a position where I can reach out and help they become the best version of themselves. I am slo in a position to make a difference, but I do not have the monetary resources to do so.
