My students are considered "At Risk” or otherwise known as promising youth. I teach up to 10 girls at a time who are incarcerated in a Juvenile Secure Facility from between 4 months to several years. I also teach up to 350 or more Detention students over the course of a school year that are temporarily incarcerated in a Detention facility from several days to many months. Most of my Detention Students are boys. Currently most of the students I teach are between 14 and 18 years of age.
I enjoy the energy of my students.
I enjoy seeing “the light” turn on in their eyes when they make connections in school. To me it is rewarding when I see them begin to take risks and engage in learning by producing quality assignments that reflect on what they have learned in class. I know success breeds success. I want to provide equipment that will enhance the ability of my students to experience success.
My Project
I need at least three Artograph Light Tracers for students to use when creating art based social studies projects and posters. Because many of my students have dexterity challenges with writing and drawing, using an Artograph Light Tracer II gives them a greater ability to create, conceptualize and compose their ideas in a way that they are not able to write or draw on their own. The quality of the work they are able to produce becomes outstanding!!! Students experience feelings of success and pride.
Having several Artograph Light Tracers II will help all of my students use their time more effectively in class.
I also need at least one Adonit Pro 3 stylus to teach lessons using One Note on an iPad. The thin point stylus will give my students an opportunity to engage in lessons by writing responses on the teacher’s iPad, rather than going up to the whiteboard to record their responses.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
