Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Art education is critical for helping students develop creativity, critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
My students are hungry, not only for the food in the cafeteria, but also for the lessons I teach.
We are a self-contained special education class, which means we are a class of little special learners that include English language learners with Autism, speech and language impairment, learning disability, ADHD and more. My students are the most charismatic and knowledge-loving kids I have ever seen. Despite their disabilities and the challenges they face. They continue to come to school everyday to feed their thirst for knowledge.
My Project
Think about a time when your felt upset, worried, or excited in school. I bet you have the opportunity to express your feelings. Now think about a child feeling the same way, but unable to clearly verbalize themselves. That means I now have trouble understanding what and how they feel. With the paint, paper, brushes and other materials, I can set up centers and activities for my students to not only express their emotions, but also ignite a desire for art and creativity.
The fact that my students will be able to express themselves through art will be an accomplishment.
Because of their disabilities, some of my students are unable to fully express their emotions, thoughts and ideas. I feel that by working with art, they will be able to finally achieve this goal.
