This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For this proposal, I am requesting a variety of wire sculpture items such as molding wire, paper mache supplies, and the tools that will allow us to explore figurative art through sculpture. Figures are a highly explored genre in art history, but my students felt many were not representative of their story, their voice, their narrative. These items will provide them with the supplies to use their art to express these exact things. My students will study the works of Calder, Celia Smith, Robin Wright, while we explore the cultural impact of sculpture in their own cultures. Students will research and study important figures that influenced their lives and create figurative sculptures that honor those folks. Ensuring that they are represented in art and can see themselves and those of importance.
