My students need cash registers, pens, bags, and artist books so they can learn about managing money as an artist. Students will make their masterpieces and "sell" their work to their classmates in our classroom store.

My Students
The Art Room is the center of creativity in our diverse school. Students are growing and learning in the same small, tight-knit school community that inspired me to be a teacher.
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners.
They are mini-inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding artists, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and teachers. They are kind and accepting. They are our future, and I want to motivate them to be the best they can be!
My Project
My students need an opportunity to learn financial literacy through play with developmentally appropriate materials.
A cash register with play money, receipt books, artist books, and a bagging station will provide my students opportunities to learn how money works from the perspective of the buyer and the artist/seller.
It will allow students to take turns selling their art and purchasing their friends' works of art. We will have a pretend store, spending and earning money at the same time. They will gain confidence when managing money!
Learning about how the real world works and learning social skills at the same time will provide my students much-needed hands-on learning. Students will create their masterpieces in class, price them to sell, make the sale, count the money, and properly pack their art. They will practice counting money, customer service skills, manners, and collaboration. It is never too early to start learning about the value of money!
