Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students

My school offers a weekly Clubs period where students have the opportunity to explore different hobbies and interests in a relaxed and fun environment.
My students come from immigrant families, often the first generation in this country and are the only family members speaking English.
As they struggle to learn a new language, they face the overwhelming challenges and rigor that elementary school now involves. Artistic expression is a way for them to unleash their creative side, making works they can be proud of that transcend all languages.
My Project
My students will use the materials to create bold, vivid and colorful murals and signage to beautify our school building. Signage will inform students, staff and visitors of stairwells, important rooms, bathrooms, exits, etc. Murals will fill the hallways, making them bright and cheery so that everyone feels happy and safe within the walls of the school. Students will use varying artistic techniques and materials, such as: collage, decoupage, watercolor painting, sculpture, layering, tempera painting, etc.
This project will improve my students confidence in themselves and their ability to produce material and work that is beneficial to all, regardless of their academic ability and level.
Without a doubt, this will allow them to stay artists and have a lifelong love of art.
