This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some of my students have come to kindergarten without having ever held a pencil, crayon or scissors. My goal for this school year is to help them refine their fine motor skills through art.

My school is situated in an area of California where there are many road blocks to success.

Even though these children are faced with poverty, violence, and air pollution they love to learn. They come to school eager to participate in the day's work.

My Project

My goal with this project is to help my students learn how to develop or refine fine motor skills. They will use scissors to cut along lines that are straight, curvy or zig zag. They will tear paper to create an animal, a tree, or a scene. They will utilize the dot markers to create works of art either that they fill in (such as a worksheet) or make a creation of their own.

All children love to create and take pride when they complete a piece of art.

However, for some children, these fine motor skills take a little while longer to develop and that is okay. I hope to give all my students the opportunity to develop and hone their fine motor skills through working with this art medium.
