My Students

Our school celebrates the diversity of students--Latino/a, Polynesian, and other cultures/ethnicities--and our students share many commonalities as well--we are a Title I school, which means more than 65% of our students come from low socioeconomic status families. Many of our students are newcomers to the U.S.; the work we do in our classroom is about building relationships, learning new content in a new language, and bridging native cultures/countries with their new home and classmates--and in Art Class, we do this through art production and learning the history of art masterpieces.

I love seeing the joy and excitement students express through artistic creations, and learning about other cultures' art styles and artistic techniques.

As we celebrate special holidays, we create art from the diverse array of countries our students' lives represent. Mexico's Dia de los Muertos, beading from the indigenous Navajo, Puerto Rico's Three Kings Day, or Tonga's Vava’u Blue Water Festival are examples of holidays we explore through art from the many countries which our students have strong connections.

We are excited to launch our first annual STEAM Fair--where ART is connected with science and technology, math, and engineering, and helping our students become familiar with the great art masters.

My Project

Social-emotional and academic learning can be made brighter and happier through art--through exploring and talking about great art, and by creating art that captures feelings, emotions, celebrations, and the world around our students. Art reflects WHO THEY ARE, and lets the world around them SEE THEM.

Innovative art tools and supplies will help our children at Sunset View find success in their creative experiments, and find joy in making artistic connections with science, technology, and engineering as we splash art onto our STEM Fair--making it our first ever "STEAM" Fair!

The easels will help us display large prints for our students to study and talk about together throughout the year and prepare for our first-ever art history challenge.
