My students need to learn how to input simple programs on programmable robots and Cozmo as well as Mindstorm will help them build a better understanding of computer programming and provide an introduction artificial intelligence
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. M's classroom raised $663

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in my STEM elective class are pretty creative and very energetic. They are a mixed group of sophomores, juniors, and seniors from different boroughs. They are predominantly Hispanics and African American kids who altogether attend our school in lower Manhattan. They are a fun loving group of kids who are all eager and excited to learn something new everyday. I explained to them that since this is a STEM class it required a lot of patience when doing hands-on activities, open mindedness, a lot of imagination, collaboration, as well as logical thinking. I am inspired by these students because everyday when they come in my classroom the first thing they tell me is, “Ms. What challenge are we going to do today?” which gives me an idea that they look forward to doing creative engineering types of work.
My students love the STEM challenges.
They were all either on the floor designing and measuring or drawing their prototypes. Some were also refining their prototypes and testing their designs as they were doing the challenges. Everyone in the classroom participates regardless of reading levels or math levels. All worked together and made their projects to the best of their abilities.
My Project
My students need programmable robots to help them practice how to write computer codes that will manipulate different types of robots. The Cozmo robot will help my students see how robots express real emotions in response their actions. It is designed as with built in artificial intelligence. It requires a free app and the processing power of a compatible mobile phone to access high level robotics functions that brings Cozmo to life. New games and upgrades are unlocked the more they play which will give them insights on how robots are programmed and when it begins to think for itself. Mindstorm on the other hand is a interactive robot with servo motors, remote control, improved and redesigned color sensor, redesigned touch sensor, infrared sensors that will help students understand how human beings write programs that will fully control this type of robot.
