Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an art teacher for students Kindergarten through fifth grade at a low income charter school in Southern California. Most of our 500 students are English Language Learners and almost all qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Despite my students' low income status, I know that all children deserve adequate access to a high quality education. As an art teacher, I believe that a strong visual arts curriculum can help children build character and self esteem. However, art supplies are extremely expensive and because I teach so many children, I have to be careful when purchasing supplies. Despite this, I want my students to create high quality artwork, which can only be done with high quality art supplies.
Therefore, I am asking for a set of 90 studio quality 8X8 3/8 inch canvas for a special painting project for my 5th grade students. I believe that when given the right materials, I know that my students will shine and will be able to create some amazing art pieces.
Who knows, maybe the next Picasso or Monet is sitting in the third row just waiting to be handed a piece of canvas and some paint. Please help my students to be able to explore the wonderful world of painting. I know that none of them have ever painted on an actual canvas before, and I want to give them that joy.
