This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has been doing remote or hybrid learning since March of 2020. Students have a need to connect to one another for social-emotional support. I'm organizing a school-wide reading initiative so students can continue reading for fun and to connect with one another.
My students attend a public urban high school that is 64 percent low income.
My Project
We're in the middle of a library reorganization and I'd like to make it a true refresh so that when students come back to the building in the fall they also see new art on the walls in the library that reflects their various backgrounds. Just Seeds is an artists' collective that makes posters commemorating members of different social movements. The poster set I would like will allow students of different identities to see themselves reflected in the library. There are posters that include activists from the following movements: African American, Latinx, Asian American, Native American LGBT, and disability rights.
