it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I Love Science! I hear this often in the hallways & as my kids walk into the science lab. My students are always excited to learn something new. "What are we doing today?" they ask with smiling faces.
I work at a predominantly low income, inner city, Title 1 school.
98% of my students are Hispanic with Spanish as their first language. 95% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Our students have many hurdles in life, and learning to speak the English language well is one of the biggest.
My Project
The iPad minis will be used as part of science research stations in my lab. I teach a hands on lab & research is something we always run short on. I try to incorporate STEM activities as much as possible. My class is short on technology and in this day and age it is a necessity. The markers and map colors will be used as supplies for drawing and labeling their projects.
My Spanish dominant students would be able to use educational apps such as science vocabulary apps to help get them on level and ready for the 5th grade STAAR.
Drawing and coloring what they see, helps them remember on a whole different level. Empowering students through art is a great way to reach monolingual students! I try to instill the love of science in my students any way I can, and what child doesn't love "playing" on a tablet! Learning through play is an important part of my lab.
